50. 23rd May， 1976. The UEFA Cup final between Liverpool and Borussia Moenchengladbach in Rotterdam is interrupted by a bomb threat from an unidentified caller on the public-address system. Police later discover that it was a hoax， but panic ensues when they announce over the PA that there has been no trace of explosives at the stadium so far. An estimated 40 minutes are lost before play can resume. As things turn out， however， this is the only time during which Gladbach have a chance to equalise. Liverpool go on to win the match 3-1， their first European trophy since 1965/66 - just three years after they last won the FA Cup.

In January 1975， as Nottingham Forest played Huddersfield Town away， referee Derek Bates stopped play with 40 seconds remaining due to “the most disgusting scenes you've ever seen” according to one observer： a mass brawl involving eight players and several fans involved in a dog fight.
